Many boaters have had a glimpse of HARMONY at the occasional LRC rendevouz, or perhaps cruising the Bahamas or the east coast. She turns heads where ever she sails and with good reason. HARMONY is a strikingly stunning vessel. Her attributes go much further than her smashing good looks. She is sea kindly, economical, spacious, well designed, well equipped and a well executed sea going trawler. Few in number, these heavily built, sturdy, small ships in the LRC family continue to have a strong following and real gems like HARMONY are extraordinary.

A beautiful teak and holly sole replaces the carpeted salon in Jaunary 2012.  See Photo!  Another example of the loving and continuous care HARMONY has always enjoyed.  HARMONY is not a rare find, she is a matchless find to the credit of her very knowledgeable and discriminating owners.

Harmony's current owner bought her in 1999. She retains her original manuals, brochures, blue prints and even a 1976 Motorboating & Sailing Performance Test article by Dex Hart. Her vintage attributes remain and can easily be seen in the accompanying photographs. Her owner has, however, made meaningful upgrades throughout his years of care and attention. She has obviously enjoyed excellent maintenance her entire life and it shows in her hardware, engine room, interior and the condition of her hull. The excellent maintenance records convey as do the historical documents.

HARMONY has just returned to her berth from a spring haul (March 2011) during which her hull bottom was sanded, thru hull scoops removed and cleaned, running gear taken to bare metal, primed and painted with two coats of Pettit Vivid, zincs replaced and bottom painted with Pettit Trinidad.

In 2005, all the exterior hardware was removed, much of it rechromed and the entire boat was awlgripped. The hull is Super Jet Black, the house and topsides are Oyster White and the non-skid is Moon Dust tan. She is ready to go on her next cruise.

The Biggest Pros and Cons

The 1976 Hatteras 48 LRC "Long Range Cruiser" is a classic motor yacht known for its solid construction and impressive cruising capabilities. Here are some of the key pros and cons of this model:

Pros

Robust Construction: Built with a heavy-duty fiberglass hull and a full displacement design, the 48 LRC is known for its durability and seaworthiness, making it well-suited for long-range cruising.

Long Range Capability: True to its name, the Long Range Cruiser offers excellent fuel capacity and efficient engines, allowing for extended voyages without frequent refueling stops.

Spacious Interior: The layout typically includes multiple staterooms, a large salon, and a functional galley, providing comfortable living quarters for extended trips.

Classic Styling: The timeless design of the 1976 model has a traditional aesthetic that appeals to enthusiasts of vintage motor yachts.

Stable Ride: The hull design contributes to a smooth and stable ride, even in rougher sea conditions, enhancing comfort during passage-making.

Cons

Older Systems: Being a vessel from 1976, many of the mechanical, electrical, and navigational systems may require upgrades or ongoing maintenance to meet modern standards.

Fuel Efficiency: While capable of long-range cruising, the engines and propulsion technology of the era are less fuel-efficient compared to contemporary designs.

Handling: The full displacement hull and size can make maneuvering in tight marinas or crowded docks more challenging without experienced handling.

Maintenance Costs: As with many classic yachts, upkeep can be more intensive and costly due to the age of the materials and systems.

Speed: The design prioritizes range and comfort over speed, so the cruising speed is moderate compared to faster, more modern yachts.
